History:

Something about Zapata himself - Emiliano Zapata's name brought thoughts of romance and adventure, as well as terror and panic, to people in the early 1900's in Mexico. Like Pancho Villa, Zapata was a strong and inspiring revolutionary leader who helped to overthrow the oppressive forces of President Diaz. The new revolutionary President, Madero, was unable to unify the country, however, and soon the heroes were fighting against each other and the long sought-for revolution turned into cruel massacres and indiscriminate bloodshed. The old cry of "Viva Zapata" (Long live Zapata) inspired many to stand up to oppression and fear and fight for freedom.
